6 Shocking Facts About Star Trek: TNG’s Uniforms!..

3.  Uniforms Damaged Their Backs

Another major drawback with spandex is that it fails to stretch in all directions. Blackman specifically said that spandex stretches “side to side or top to bottom” depending on the way the garment is cut. In this case, the garments were cut side to side which meant that the uniforms would pull downwards at all times. Stewart stated that he constantly had to fight to stand straight and upright. In fact, the uniforms dug into the shoulders of the cast! Furthermore, Stewart’s chiropractor had said that he would have to face permanent damage if didn’t leave the costume. Now that’s some back benching!

4.  Hot Uniforms

I’m not talking about hot looks here but about hot temparatures. As it is, since spandex is a costume that fails to let air pass through it, after wearing it for hours, it becomes hot and very uncomfortable. Now add to this, the heat of the studio lights and the sweat and the resultant odor. Yeah, you get the picture I’m sure.
